Abstract. Phenomena that underlie socio-cultural approach to education development are explored in the paper. The author describes an educational expedition as a socio-cultural technology that combines logic of daily living in conditions of unplanned travelling with traditional and non-traditional forms of pedagogical research and education development in local communities. It is proved that a triad “epos, travelling, and educational expedition” presents one of the most important educational environments for personal development. It is demonstrated that cultural images, that a travelling person encounters, are not only specific “markers”. These images also include content of education and tools for its development.
